Radiology (X-Rays)

Hill Country Veterinary Hospital utilizes advanced imaging technologies and offers the option for x-rays to be reviewed by board-certified veterinary radiologists, ensuring the highest quality of care.

Radiographs, or x-rays, use electromagnetic radiation directed towards the body to highlight objects within. They can detect abnormalities including skeletal fractures, soft tissue damage, foreign bodies and dental disease.

Orthopedic radiographs and contrast studies require the patient remain completely still to work correctly, necessitating sedation in most cases. Some specialized procedures may require anesthesia. The duration of sedation or anesthesia is usually short and patient recovery is swift.

  • Trauma: Diagnose suspected fractures, dislocations, or internal injuries.
  • Foreign Objects: Identify ingested foreign bodies or gastrointestinal obstructions.
  • Dental Health: Assess tooth root health, dental abscesses, and determine extraction needs.
  • Abdominal Issues: Detect enlarged organs, bladder stones, or masses.
  • Cardiovascular Health: Evaluate heart size and shape, and identify fluid in the chest.
  • Pregnancy: Confirm pregnancy, estimate litter size, and assess fetal positioning.
  • Respiratory Conditions: Diagnose pneumonia, lung tumors, or other pulmonary issues.
  • Musculoskeletal Disorders: Evaluate arthritis, hip dysplasia, or spinal problems.
  • Cancer Screening: Detect bone tumors or metastases to the lungs.
