K. Benet Sandell, D.V.M.
Practice Owner

I graduated from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine in 1992 and started my veterinary career here at Hill Country Veterinary Hospital under the guidance of Dr. Alton Smith. I purchased the practice in January of 2000. It has been my pleasure and privilege to continue in Dr. Smith’s footsteps by providing quality veterinary care to all the families that have been faithful and loyal clients of this practice for so many years. It is this very trait that drew me to this practice, the family oriented atmosphere and the personable staff. I feel these qualities are what make this practice special and unique.

I have had a passion for this field since I was five years of age, and I continue to enjoy all the different aspects presented to me in the practice of veterinary medicine. My interests lie strongly in the field of surgery, both soft tissue and orthopedic, but I am constantly challenged and intrigued by my internal medicine cases. I continue to strive to improve both my knowledge and skills so that I might always provide the best service to my clients and their loved ones.

I am supported at home by my husband, Dean and my son, Zachary. When not working, I am usually spending time with family and that time usually involves some type of water activity. Swimming, skiing, boating or just hanging out at the lake, is what my family loves to do. I have always had a love for Sight hounds and currently our house is blessed by our Whippet Jake and our very independent cat Sage.

Dr. Ginger Davis
Associate Veterinarian

I am lucky to have grown up in Austin and have spent much of my life here. After discovering my fascination with anatomy and physiology in high school, I graduated with a degree in biology from University of Texas at Austin. While working in wild bird rehab, I discovered my love of veterinary medicine and went on to graduate from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine with honors. The following year I completed an internship at Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialty Hospital. After my internship I moved back to join a small animal and exotic hospital where I practiced for 10 years.

I recently chose Hill Country Veterinary Hospital because of the culture the hospital fosters. Dr. Sandell has found how to balance providing consistent, high-quality care while maintaining a friendly, supportive environment. I appreciate that many clients have been trusting their pets to her care for decades and I’m happy to be a part of the team.

My favorite areas of practice include dermatology, internal medicine (particularly endocrinology), cardiology and preventative care. I most enjoy finding solutions for people to their pets’ problems and even better yet, helping people find better ways to prevent problems. I know that your pets are your family and I look forward to helping you take the best care of them possible!

Lauren King
Head Technician Morning

I was raised in Asheboro, North Carolina and have been living in Texas since 2005. An avid animal lover from a young age, I have always wanted to work in the field of veterinary medicine. Before finding a permanent home with HCVH in July of 2007, I had worked as an adoption counselor for the Humane Society and volunteered with both the SPCA of Manhattan and the NC Zoo Wildlife Rehabilitation Center.

I love working in the veterinary field because it is always evolving. Each day presents a different challenge and the opportunity to increase, expand, and build upon the knowledge and training from the previous day. There is nothing more rewarding or satisfying than being able to play a part in helping an animal. My own personal pets include 2 dogs, 2 cats and a dwarf rabbit. When not at work, I enjoy relaxing with my critters, going to the theater, reading and traveling.

I have just recently joined the team here at Hill Country Vet Hospital. I have been in veterinary medicine for 6 years. My favorite part of being in this field is the ability to assist in providing quality medicine to all of our patients. In my spare time I hang out with my dog Layla, whom I love very much. I enjoy hockey, fantasy football, and comedy.

I inherited the love for animals from my dad, who is a veterinarian himself in my home country of Guatemala. I had a lot of fun having all kinds of pets in my house growing up. I love working at Hill Country Veterinary Hospital because the environment is great and I have amazing co-workers with whom I share the joy of taking care of all of our clients’s pets.

Lisa Ramos
Head Receptionist

I have been in the veterinary field since 2008 and I absolutely love my job! I have been a receptionist at Hill Country Veterinary Hospital since 2010 and I have to say, we have the very best clients in the entire hill country! I love getting to know our clients and their beloved pets and helping them to the best of my ability. Excellent customer service is my passion and getting to spend the day with dogs and cats is just a bonus!

I am married to my best friend and we have a son named Daniel. We share our home with a Border Collie named Sookie, a Poodle named Bones, and a long haired cat named Manny.

Vanessa Craine
Receptionist

I have been working as a veterinary receptionist for almost 10 years.  I absolutely love my job and would never want to do anything else.  I have 2 dogs, Knox and Turbo and 2 cats, Cheese and Monster.  I love working at Hill Country Veterinary Hospital  because I am a local and know many of the clients that walk through our doors.  I really love getting to know our clients and their families.  Customer service is very important to me.  I also love my staff family at Hill Country Veterinary Hospital.

Nicholas V. Boze
Kennel Technician

Nick has been with our team since April 2015. He takes the best care of our boarding pets. He not only bathes, feeds, and walks the pets staying with us at the clinic, but he provides care and love to them as well. Cassie and Atticus sit by the door and wait for him to come in every day.

Cassandra “Cassie”
Clinic Pet / Cute / Feisty

I am the clinic cat. I got lost from my mother as a kitten and a nice man brought me to HCVH, where I have stayed ever since. I am my own boss and usually do whatever strikes my fancy. My favorite activities include running laps around the treatment area and attacking house plants in Dr. Sandell’s office. I also love to spy on the pets in the reception area and plan how I might hunt birds that I see through the window. My aspirations include finding additional treats and accumulating a larger cache of mouse toys under Dr. Golden’s desk.

Interests:

Demanding attention from everyone when they are trying to work!

Atticus
Clinic Pet / Feisty

I am a pretty feisty boy! I roam about the clinic at my leisure, and demand attention from everyone. I am such a sweet boy though, and am happy to call this clinic home. You are most likely to find me stealing the receptionist chair for a mid day nap!

Interests:

Darting from room to room.
